Hellooooo? How long have I been saying this?!?!?

So, for QUITE awhile now, I've held firm to the belief that Oprah is NOT all that she's cracked up to be and that she's just way too self-righteous, self-indulgent, self-promoting for me to believe anything she says.  I don't read a book when it's in her book club simply because I don't believe I should read a book because she's promoting it.  Just like I don't watch Dr. Phil because he's one of her minions.

Now I know that some of you may watch her because you like the celebrities that she has on there, or the feel-good stories that she does, or the give-aways that she does.  I admit, I've even been known to watch her "Favorite Things" episode, too.  But NO MORE!  I received an email yesterday and sent it out to quite a few people (some of you may have already gotten this and can simply ignore this post).  I highly encourage you to follow the link below and watch the video.  It will open your eyes (or maybe just reaffirm your feelings) about one of the most powerful women in the world.

I know you've all been on pins and needles...

So, I totally forgot about posting the answers to the song lyric quiz, so here they are (sorry it took so long...and sorry this is the only update you're getting...I, like a lot of my friends, have been using blogspot a lot more to blog my feelings and updates on life...I fear Xanga may shortly become just a random dabbling for me to put up silly quizzes--but no worries!  I shall still keep up to date on all my xanga friends' lives!)  Okay, that was really long parenthetical sentence!  Here's the answers:

1.  "I can feel her heart beat for a thousand miles"

Push (Matchbox 20)
5.  "I saw fireworks from the freeway and behind closed eyes I can't make them go away"

Remedy (Jason Mraz)

A Mindless Entry...

I don't feel like typing out a real entry...sorry...no updates on life at the Hughes household...just a mindless survey or quiz of sorts.  I stole the idea from a facebook friend and thought it was fun, so here goes.  I put my Ipod on random and type in the 1st line of the first 20 songs I hear and you all have to see if you can guess the song!  Enjoy!

1.  I can feel her heart beat for a thousand miles
2.  I keep trying to find a life on my own apart from you
3.  I said I wanna touch the earth
4.  She said I don't know if I've ever been good enough
5.  I saw fireworks from the freeway and behind closed eyes I can't make them go away
6.  I guess I thought you'd be here forever
7.  When I'm out walking I strut my stuff yeah I'm so strung out
8.  Standing at the back door she tried to make it fast
9.  Yeah I trust in you, I remember times you led me
10.  You have my heart and I am Yours forever
11.  I'm gonna tell you something you don't wanna hear
12.  And now I know Spanish Harlem are not just pretty words to say
13.  A little country church on a two lane road
14.  I've never been the kind that you'd call lucky
15.  What's wrong with the world mama, people livin' like they ain't got no mamas
16.  I waited for you today but you didn't show
17.  I was thinking that I might fly today
18.  I can tell there's something you don't wanna tell me
19.  Mama, I found someone like you said would come along
20.  Almost heaven, West Virginia

There you go...good luck!  I will warn you that even I didn't recognize some of these and they're on my Ipod!  Hopefully they aren't too hard.  Have fun!

Did I mention.....

that we're having a little girl????  :)  WOO HOO!!!!!  Hadley Rose Hughes will come greet us sometime in July!  My mom and I went to Joann Fabric yesterday and bought all the fabric to make curtains, a dust ruffle for the crib, a bumper and a quilt...it's SOOOO cute!  It's all pink and sage green vintage calico rose prints...very shabby chic-esque!  I can't WAIT to get the nursery ready!  Of course, I say that, but actually doing the work makes me yawn just thinking about it because I'm tired ALL THE TIME!  I thought that was supposed to be over during the 2nd trimester (hmmm...I'm vaguely recalling actually typing the same thing when I was pregnant with J.J.!).

Hope everyone's day is going well...I'm off to take a nap before the little boy wakes up!

My baby boy turned 2 last Friday!  How is that possible!?!?!?  Didn't I just bring him home from the hospital????  I know it's one of the most cliched phrases ever, but you NEVER realize how fast your kids grow up until you have them!  It really makes you realize how fast the time goes and how precious every moment is.  I have to remind myself of that when, for the 3rd night in a row, J.J. has woken up at 12:30 (which, let's be honest...I wasn't asleep yet) having some kind of nightmare or just woke up and didn't realize where he was or something, but he's crying "Mommy!"  So I go in there, pick him up and reassure him that Mommy has in fact NOT left him and I just hold him, with his head laid upon my shoulder, cherishing the moment and reminding myself that he won't want to do this for much longer.  He'll stop relying on me for his security and, hopefully, look to the Lord.  And he'll think it's uncool to want to hug his mom and will push me away when I try.  So even though I would rather be lying in bed watching TV, trying to make my pregnant insomniac self go to sleep, I actually am thankful that I was still awake and heard him cry (our monitor is on the fritz and we are on the other side of the house, so if I was asleep, I wouldn't have heard anything).

On another, funny note, we've been trying to teach him to pray before we eat dinner and so far, it's going well.  He knows to put his hands together (which I know is not REQUIRED to pray, but it helps him understand what it's time for) and to bow his head.  Well, last week we started having him try to say the prayer...a really short, easy prayer:  "Thank you, Jesus, for our food.  Amen"  Pretty easy.  So the other day, we all had our heads bowed and I told him to say what I said and he was doing pretty well, until he got to the word "for".  I kept saying "Thank you, Jesus, FOR" and he would say "cinco".

"No, no...FOR"

"Cinco"

It took me a second to get what he was doing...in Mother's Day Out, one of his teachers, Miss Vielka, is Hispanic and has been teaching the class to count in Spanish.  So when he heard "for", he was thinking "four" and just naturally said the next number, "cinco"!  I started laughing and tried to explain to Johnny what he was doing, but words weren't coming through the snickering.  Ahhhh...mommyhood!  Got to love it!

And, to show what he looks like these days, as I haven't updated with pics for a long time (Xanga friends), here are some from his birthday party last week

It was Elmo all around at his party...he kinda has a thing for Elmo.

The best pose we could get of him actually looking at the camera...he would say cheese while not looking at the camera and then by the time the picture was taken, he was looking away....stupid Red-eye Reduction delay!
